More and more often, the road restraint system can mix aesthetic and secure, in a way to preserve the users visual environment. The EURO MB1® mixed wood-metal guardrail is particularly weel adapted to natural sites such as forest or montain roads, city entry areas, … The use in the curves of the same spacing that the straight parts ensures an aesthetic continuity.

Characteristics

The rails (3m long and 1.50m long for curves) are made up from one (or two) half-log(s) with a 18cm diameter and a galvanized steel rail.

The various elements of the EURO MB1® system in Scots pine (rail and posts covering) are treated without arsenic. The C100 posts, the rail and EURO MB1® spacers, specific to the system, are in galvanized steel.

EURO MB1® is available in all-wood version with no visible metal part. A complete range of accessories is available such as transitions on GSA and GBA, posts on plates, lowered terminals, reflectors, handrail (cf. photograph) …

EURO MB1® can be easily equipped with a motorcyclist screen motorcycle screen to avoid the direct contact with the posts of the mixed wood-metal guardrail.

Performances

EURO MB1® is a mixed wood-metal guardrail of level N2 according to the EN 1317-2 European standards. It was tested into LIER and is in conformity with the ministerial circulars n°95-43 of April 19, 1995; n°98-53 of May 5, 1998 and n°2000-9 of January 21, 2000. It became, since 1995, a product largely use on the French territory end in Europe.

The 4.5m lowered terminal includes two posts in addition to the last post of the system, which ensures a perfect anchoring to the system during an impact and improves safety.

Installation, durability and maintenance

Glissières Euro H2

EURO MB1® has the characteristic, thanks to its design, to be always used in 3m spacing in tight curves and this without special parts use. This generates a substancial profit, which means a post savings all 6meters compared to system of 2m spacing.

The horizontal rail of 3m is pre-assembled in factory (wood and metal together). It weighs 68 kg and is thus lighter than a 4m rail. In its version simple log, the rail weighs only 48 kg. The oblong holes located on each metal rail ends of the horizontal beam leave sufficient free movement to regulate easily the system.

As they are installed outside in a very agressive and humid environment, in contact with the ground or are likely to trap water (horizontal logs), the wooden parts of the mixed guardrails have to respect the class of employment 4, according to the EN335 standards.
High attention should be drawn to the used tree species. Somme of them like Spruce or Douglas have to be avoided because considered as refactories ones according to the EN 350 standards. They only reach P5 level regarding their absorption capacity of the wood treatment wich define them as a class 3 product.

ROADIS LPC use a class 4 Scots pine. It is 100% impregnated up to the core of the wood which means up to the highest level according to the standards (P8 level). This insures a very high durability.

The Scots pine, the preservative product and the process of safeguarding form a process recognized by certificates CTB B+ and CTB P+ that ROADIS LPC has. Attention with the fraudulent practices : certificate CTB-P+ sole is insufficient because it guarantees only the quality of the preservative product, but in no case, the process of impregnation. The use of mark CTB-P+ is reserved to the preservatives manufacturers.
